Wilma Walters

August 10, 1923 — April 3, 2015

Wilma Mae, daughter of Charles and Lyda (Buss) Kintz, was born August 10, 1923 in Tabor, Iowa. The family moved several times as Wilma was growing up. In 1941 she graduated from Harlan High School. After graduation and during World War II she worked in Fort Crook with the war effort. She then returned to the Harlan area and began working at Moran's Cleaners where she met Kenneth Walters. On May 30, 1948 Wilma was united in marriage with Kenneth and moved to Botna, Iowa where she worked at the general store and was the assistant Post Mistress. Five children were born to this union and raised in Botna. In 1968 Kenny died in an automobile accident. Wilma continued to live in their home in Botna. Wilma was employed at the Manning Plaza for more than 30 years, first as an aide and then as an LPN after graduating from LPN school 30 years after graduating from high school. She was a positive role model for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great granddaughter and cherished the time she spent with them. Wilma was a 50 year member of the VFW Post #3517 Auxiliary. In 2010 when her health began to fail, Wilma spent most of her time in Sioux City with her two sons Larry and Steve eventually making her home them. She died at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City on Friday, April 3, 2015 at the age of 91 years. Preceding her in death are her parents; parents in law; husband Kenneth Walters and four sisters Joan Jackson, Charlotte Anastasi, Alice Kintz and Annabel Schroeder. Wilma is survived by her five children; Vicky Cadwell of Manilla, Steven Walters of Sioux City, David (Kay) Walters of Glidden, Tom Walters of Aspinwall and Larry Walters of Sioux City; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 3 soon-to-be great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; brother in law Florian Hansen of Harlan and many nieces , nephews, other relatives and friends.
