William C. Horbach

William C., son of John A. and Gertrude (Fox) Horbach, was born March 27, 1918 at Templeton, Iowa. He attended parochial school in Templeton and at age 14 started working on the farm with his dad. After three years he returned to school and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1938. On September 3, 1940, Bill was united in marriage with Leona Schreck by Msgr. F. H. Huesmann. They farmed in the Templeton area for ten years and were the parents of six children. In 1950 Bill started working at Templeton Savings Bank. Bill and Leona suffered a great loss in their life with the death of son Michael in 1972. Bill assumed the presidency of the bank in 1977 and served as Chairman of the Board until his death. Bill was proud of the generations of customers that the bank served. Bill was a devout member of Sacred Heart parish in Templeton. He served his community in many capacities through the years, including St. Anthony Hospital and Kuemper Catholic Schools. Above all, Bill cherished his family and enjoyed holidays and vacations together. His wife Leona died in 1994, and Bill continued to live in Templeton. In November of 2012 Bill moved to the Sunny Brook Assisted Living in Carroll. He died there surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the age of 95 years and 25 days. Preceding Bill in death are his parents; wife Leona Horbach; son Michael Horbach; and five siblings: Mayme Bierl, John Horbach, Jr., Nick Horbach, Joe Horbach and Margaret Muhlbauer. He is survived by five children: Larry Horbach (Suzanne) of Omaha, NE; Tom Horbach (Teresa) of Templeton; Richard Horbach of Palm Springs, CA; Debra Bogard (Dr. Patrick) of Omaha, NE; and Connie Rogers (Tom) of Columbus, NE; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sisters Rita Rupiper of Carroll and Coletta (Sister Mary Joyce) Horbach of Dubuque; brother-in-law Gerald "Doc" Schreck (Doris) of Templeton; sister-in-law Marie Schreck of Carroll; other relatives and friends.
