William D. "Bill" Joens, son of William L. and Viola H. (Pfannkuch) Joens, was born February 4, 1939, in Manning, Iowa. He grew up in Manilla and graduated from Manilla High School in 1957.
In 1958, Bill enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and served in the Military Police at Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Travis Air Force Base until being honorably discharged in 1962. He then worked in California with Sears and Roebuck, before becoming an over the road truck driver, hauling all kinds of stuff out of Texas. In 1990, he returned to Manilla. He retired in 2001, but remained busy hauling lime and working security at Farmland.
On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, Bill passed away at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 3 days.
Bill was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed reading and golf.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and two wives; Virginia passed away in Texas in 1988 and Ruth passed away in Manilla in 2001.
He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Joens of Manilla and her family.
