Wanita Helen, daughter of Raymond and Frances (Wuebker) Dirkx, was born July 4, 1931 at Auburn, Iowa.   She grew up in the Templeton area and attended school at Sacred Heart in Templeton. After her mothers death in 1948 she began working at home and helping raise her other siblings.

On June 26, 1950 Wanita was united in marriage with Ray Schroeder at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton.  Five children were born into this union and the family resided in Carroll. After her children were old enough, Wanita began working for Tonys Restaurant in Carroll and for General Electric.  She continued working until she was diagnosed with cancer in 2004.

Wanita was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Carroll and in her spare time she loved to bake, cross-stitch, crochet, and collect salt and pepper shakers.  Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

After the death of her husband in 2006, Wanita continued to live at home as she battled cancer.  On December 7, 2007 she was admitted to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa where she died that evening at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 3 days.

Wanita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Mike Schroeder and wife Lorene; brothers-in-law Chuck Wiskus, and Elmer, Leonard, Harold, Dick, and Alvin Schroeder; sisters-in-law Cheryl Dirkx, Delores Preusser, Mildred Minton, and Rita Cedar; niece Cathy Dirkx; and nephew Christopher Wiskus.
