Wanda Elaine, daughter of Harold and Lura (Fohey) Shride, was born December 27, 1926 near Hunnewell, MO. She started rural school near Hunnewell and in 1936 moved with her family to a farm near Bayard, IA. After a few years they moved closer to Coon Rapids where Wanda graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1945. The next year, on February 14, 1946, Wanda was united in marriage with John J. Schumacher at the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids. They were the parents of three sons and lived on the Schumacher family farm northeast of Coon Rapids. Wanda helped with the farm work including cleaning milking machines, baling hay and raising chickens. She would do about any work on the farm except drive the tractor! She was a wonderful supporter and loyal companion to her husband as well as his office assistant. Wanda was a great cook, flower gardener, bird watcher and immaculate housekeeper. Over the years she supported her boys in all their school and extracurricular activities. She was always concerned for others, usually one of the first to bring food to someone in need. She enjoyed music and playing the piano for her own enjoyment - and her family enjoyed it as well. Spending time with her twin sister Wilma brought her great joy. Wanda was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids where she was a charter member of Wesleyan Service Guild, member of United Methodist Women and long time choir member. As Wanda's health began to deteriorate, her husband along with the support of family and friends, was able to care for her at home for several years before she became a resident of the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. She died there on Friday, May 7, 2010 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 10 days. Preceding Wanda in death are her parents; twin sister Wilma Wurr and nephew Doug Wurr. She is survived by her husband John J. Schumacher of Coon Rapids; three sons Ken Schumacher and wife Dana of Ames; Steve Schumacher and wife LuAnn of Tucson, AZ; and Jeff Schumacher and wife Melinda of Rosemount, MN; four grandchildren: Jennifer Reinstra; Brad Schumacher; Kurt Schumacher and Peter Schumacher; two nieces Linda Peters and Cathy Keyser; other relatives and many friends.
