Wanda Helen, daughter of Claude and Hester (Frederick) Russell, was born February 17, 1933, in Sac City, Iowa. One of eight children, Wanda attended Sac City High School and graduated in 1951. She worked at a bank in Des Moines until she met Melvin. On September 20, 1953, Wanda was united in marriage with Melvin Kruskop in Sac City. Three daughters were born to this union. Wanda was a homemaker and very loving and supportive wife and mother. The family lived and farmed northwest of Lytton until 1971 when they moved to a home they built near Lytton. Wanda helped Melvin start an antique furniture restoration business in 1983. The couple moved to Carroll in 1998 to enjoy their retirement. Wanda loved to read and was very involved in charitable giving. Her family was the light of her life. Wanda was quiet but determined in her faith and showed great empathy and compassion for others. Wanda took good care of Melvin when he became ill. He died September 20, 2009. Wanda was able to remain at home until her health started to decline shortly before her passing. Wanda died September 5, 2013 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 19 days. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Melvin Kruskop; five siblings: Bernice, Floyd, Dean, Ernest, and Ruth. Wanda is survived by her daughters Julie Hiatt of Des Moines; Nancy and husband Tim Schmitz of Arcadia and Lisa McCoy of Des Moines; grandchildren Cody Schmitz and wife Rachel; Jake Schmitz and Tasha Hiatt; one great-grandson Gabriel Schmitz; sisters: Irene Siebrecht of Des Moines; and Ina Fern McBride of Kansas City; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends Visitation MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2013, 9:30 A.M.
