     Veronica Agnes, daughter of Frank and Regina (Gaestel) Dietz was born on October 12, 1916 in Charter Oak, Iowa. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Charter Oak High School in 1933. Veronica then worked in Algona and Waterloo as a secretary before returning to Charter Oak in 1945 to work for Iowa Public Service. In 1965 Veronica was transferred to the Carroll office.

     On December 27, 1966 Veronica was united in marriage with Arnold Plahn at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. In addition to caring for her two children, Veronica helped manage the A & W Drive Inn in Carroll with her husband. She retired in 1982. In her retirement Veronica remained busy traveling with her husband and friends. She was a member of St. Lawrence Church and the Blind Society.

     After the death of her husband Arnold in 1990, Veronica remained at her home in Carroll until she became a resident of St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll in June 2008. Veronica died there on September 14, 2009 at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 2 days.

     Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: Charles Dietz, Eugene Dietz, Joseph Dietz, John Dietz and Paul Dietz.

     She is survived by her children Dan Priest and special friend Kathleen of Van Nuys, CA and Pam and husband Jim Nieland of Carroll; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister Connie Kesterson of Charter Oak; sister-in-law Stella Dietz of Des Moines; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
