Tom Landon

Thomas Robert, son of Robert and Ethyl (Mischler) Landon, was born August 23, 1945 at Carroll, IA. He grew up in Carroll and graduated from Kuemper High School. Tom worked and excelled as a carpet installer for his entire career. On January 13, 1968 Tom was united in marriage with Millie Schmitz. Millie, Tom and their children made their home in Carroll before moving to an acreage near Charter Oak for a short time. They later moved into Charter Oak. In 1995 they moved to Auburn where Tom was a dedicated volunteer caretaker for St. Mary's Church. Tom continued to work until 2012 when hand surgery forced him to retire. He was an avid bow hunter and had many fun times in the woods with his "little" brother Randy. Tom loved all his grandchildren and relished spoiling them. Following a short illness, Tom died peacefully at home in Auburn, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. He was 69 years, 2 months and 12 days of age. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife Millie Landon in 2009; twin daughters in infancy; grandson Joseph Landon; sister Mary Olerich (Rollin); and nephew Nick Renze. He is survived by four children: Mike Landon (Carrie) of Ida Grove; Sandy Landon of Olivia, MN; Lori Davis (Bill) of Ida Grove; and Steven Landon (Kaori) of Ft. Hood, TX; 17 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; four siblings: John Landon (Alice) of Naples, FL; Nancy Anderson (Dean) of Ft. Dodge; Roberta Landon (friend Jay Barker) of Bayard; and Randy Landon (Betsy) of Carroll; brother-in-law Don Schmitz of Dedham; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Celebrant REV.
