Theodore Fredrick Tater?, son of Mathias Thomas and Emma Mary (Schnuettgen) Gollobit, was born September 19, 1922 in Earling, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm in Shelby County and attended country school. After his schooling Tater began farming with his father. When he was 19, his father died and Tater became the caring provider for his mom and nine younger siblings.
Tater loved to fly airplanes and even used his plane to court Donna, the love of his life. On March 27, 1951 he was united in marriage with Donna Goeres in Defiance, Iowa. Four children were born into this union and the family made their home on Taters family farm. In 1987 he moved to Manilla but continued to help out on the farm with his son Bruce.
Besides flying, Taters passions included restoring and collecting antique tractors and engines in the old blacksmith shop in Manilla. He loved to open the shop and show his work to others. Tater also enjoyed attending antique tractor shows. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Manilla and the N.F.O., Greenridge and Klondike.
For the last four years Tater courageously battled cancer. On March 2008, he became a resident of the Manilla Manor where he died on June 11, 2008 at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 23 days.
Tater was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Odelia Wenzel, Richard Gollobit and Edna Schute.
