Ted Leroy, son of Gerald McCord and Mabel Elizabeth (Ohm) Watkins, was born March 18, 1933, on the farm in Dodge Township, Guthrie County, Iowa. The family lived on farms in Dodge and Highland Townships near Bayard. Ted graduated from Bayard High School in 1950.
He farmed with his father until he entered the United States Army in 1953. Ted served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on May 21, 1955. Ted returned to Bayard and to farming with his father.
After the death of his father in 1980, he continued to farm and faithfully cared for his mother in their home in Bayard until her death in 1996. He retired from farming in 1998, but continued to help his cousins with their farming operations. He also worked at FCE in Bayard.
Ted was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bayard and Post 44 of the American Legion. He especially enjoyed getting together with family, however did not ever want to be a burden to anyone.
Ted was diagnosed with cancer in late 2006. He died at home on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 3 days.
Preceding him in death are his parents.
He is survived by cousins and their families and his many friends.
