Steven Spangler

Steven Dale Spangler was born on August 6, 1959, the son of Dale and Arlene (Ober) Spangler in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He received his education from Eagle Grove High School. Following his education, he enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard, where he proudly served until receiving his honorable discharge in 1979.

On July 12, 1985, Steven married Sue Pelz. Together, they were blessed with three children. Although they later went their separate ways and divorced in 2005, they remained connected through their family. In the early years of his working life, Steven was employed at a turkey processing plant. Not long after, he discovered his career path in roofing and construction, a field to which he dedicated many years. In 2010, he made a career change and began working for his son at Spangler Automotive, now known as Karl Preowned in Glidden.

Steven enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He found great companionship with his German Shepherd, Karma. He looked forward to traveling to classic car auctions, particularly Mecum Sales with his family and friends. He cherished every moment he was able to spend with his grandkids.

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Steven passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, at the age of 65 years, seven months, and 29 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark Spangler.

Steven is survived by his three children: Bryan (Jennifer) Spangler and Amanda Spangler all of Coon Rapids and Dustin (Kim) Spangler of Davenport; four grandchildren: Adalynn, Brevin, Steven and Blake; siblings: Wes (Kathy) Spangler of Aurora, Colorado, Kevin Spangler of Estherville and Luana (Jon) Johnson of Story City; sister-in-law, Terry Spangler of Mankato, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

Steven’s wishes were to be cremated and the family will hold a Celebration of Life from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Northside Rec in Coon Rapids.
