Stanley E. Ewoldt

Stanley Edward, son of Hugo and Florence (Georgius) Ewoldt was born September 1, 1931 at Manning, Carroll County, Iowa. As children, Stan and his brother raised many ponies on the family farm between Manning and Manilla, where he grew up and attended country school. Stan farmed his entire life, his early years on the family farm, later for George James, and finally for Amanda Kruse. He had a true passion for the farm life, and took exceptional pride in his horses and sheep. Stan loved to share his knowledge and his horses with friends and neighbors and the entire community in parades, pony rides, and horse and buggy rides. Throughout the years, Stan has especially loved entertaining children from tractor, horse, shoulder and piggyback rides to stories, songs, coloring books and gum. Stan was fortunate to have such wonderful caring neighbors. They were like family to him. This was particularly demonstrated by the restoration of his 1950 John Deere tractor. Stan was baptized and joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning in 1987. He was also a member of the Manilla Rough Riders Saddle Club and was a board member of the Aspinwall Community Club for many years. On Monday, August 8, 2011 Stan died as a result a of a motor vehicle accident near Templeton. He was 79 years, 11 months and 7 days of age. Stan was a generous, caring, trusting, simple man. He always put the needs of others before his own. He found a friend in everyone he met. Stan touched the hearts of so many and will be truly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald Ewoldt. Stan is survived by a sister in law Verna Ewoldt of Harlan; nieces and nephews: Kathleen and husband Bruce Carl of Harlan; Thomas Ewoldt and wife Traci of Harlan; Annette and husband Robert Wells of Lake View; LuAnn and husband Tim Vollstedt of Arcadia and Lynn Ewoldt and wife Kris of Elkhorn, NE; other relatives and many friends.
