Shirley Ann, daughter of Clarence and Golda (Smouse) Stangl, was born on July 21, 1931 at Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended Annunciation Grade School and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1948. Shirley spent the next three years working as a secretary for Garst and Thomas.
On April 15, 1950, Shirley was united in marriage with John Arrowsmith at Coon Rapids. Four daughters were born into this union. Shirley spent the next several years at home taking care of her family. In 1966 she went back to work as a dispatcher for Garst and Thomas, retiring after 35 years with the company.
Shirley stayed active as a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and Ladies Guild, T.T.T., and the Kitchen Kluckers Band. She enjoyed singing, bird watching, playing cards, watching sports, and most importantly spending time with family.
On June 5th 2007, Shirley suffered a massive stroke at the home in Coon Rapids that she shared with her dear sister, Carolyn Hart, for the past seven years. She died later that day at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 10 months, and 15 days.
Besides her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her two brothers Jack Stangl and Paul Stangl; sister-in-law Marg Stangl and brother-in-law Bill Hart.
She is survived by four daughters: Linda and husband Allen Free of Ft. Collins, CO; Joni and husband Charlie Bock of Carroll; Carol and husband Roger OTool of Glidden; and Jo Ann Clausen of Glidden; 13 grandchildren: Jonathan Free and wife Jennifer, Melissa and Rachel Free, Sherri Burton, Shane Bock and wife Kellie, Shawn Bock and wife Mandi, Shyler Bock and wife Krystin, Shandi and husband Brian Kennebeck, Shamus Bock, Arica and husband Rob Bowman, and Burton, Stuart and Daniel Clausen; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Carolyn Hart; sister-in-law Helen Stangl; special friends John Molitor and wife Ruth; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
