Mass of the Christian Burial for Ruth Kisgen, age 98, of Templeton, will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton with an Honor Guard by the St. Rose of Lima #6 Catholic Daughters of Carroll. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton. Visitation will be after 4 PM on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, with a 5 PM Rosary by the St. Rose of Lima #6 Catholic Daughters of Carroll and a 7:30 PM Prayer Service by Father Gary Snyder.
Ruth, daughter of Ben and Elizabeth (Fangman) Lechtenberg, was born August 13, 1920, at Templeton, Iowa. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Templeton. On August 13, 1940, Ruth was united in marriage with Oswald Kisgen at Templeton. Three children were born to this union. Ruth worked at several places, including Templeton Savings Bank and the City of Templeton. She then stayed at home to raise children and help her husband run Kisgen Oil Company.
After the business was sold in 1988, Ruth became an avid card player, enjoying various card clubs and trips to visit her children and grandchildren. Ruth was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Templeton, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Parish Ladies Guild and Hospital Auxiliary.
After the death of her husband Oswald in 1998, she was able to remain at home until 2017 when she became a resident of Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Carroll, where she passed away on Friday, January 4, 2019, at the age of 98.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oswald, brother Alois Lechtenberg and sister Elaine Prebeck.
Ruth is survived by her three children: Sharon Edloff of Bennington, NE; James (Jean) Kisgen of San Antonio, TX; Kay Lynn (Ronald) Wiederien of Derby, KS; six grandchildren: Stephen (Ann) Edloff of Omaha, NE; Douglas (Katrina) Kisgen of Boerne, TX; Darren (Lauren) Kisgen of Natick, MA; Laura (Eric) Barnes of Wichita, KS; Eric (Ngoc) Wiederien of Wichita, KS; Lisa Wiederien of Derby, KS; five great-granddaughters: Cassandra Kisgen, Melissa Edloff, Olivia Kisgen, Caroline Kisgen and Elly Wiederien; eight great-grandsons: Alexander Kisgen, Joseph Kisgen, Kyle Edloff, Caden Miller, Mitchell Kisgen, Thomas Kisgen, Cole Wiederien and Liam Wiederien; brother Daniel Lechtenberg of Templeton, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
