Funeral services for Ruby Edmunds, 97, of Manning, Iowa, will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Interment will follow in Manning Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, May 22, 2017, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning.
Ruby Mae, daughter of George H. and Minnie (Jensen) Struve, was born May 22, 1919 near Manning, Iowa. She grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1936. She then went to school to become a nurse, graduating from Jenny Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs in 1941. Ruby worked in Atlantic, Iowa, and Parsons, Kansas.
On August 6, 1943 Ruby was united in marriage with Clarence O. Edmunds in Los Angeles, California. Two children were born to this union. Ruby worked in a couple different hospitals in Los Angeles while Clarence served overseas. In 1952, Ruby and Clarence settled in Manning where Ruby served as the school nurse from 1960 until her retirement in 1970. After Clarence passed away on January 24, 2001, Ruby lived on her own for many years until becoming a resident of Manning Plaza Nursing Home in 2013. Ruby was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning.
On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 Ruby passed away at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning, Iowa. She was 97 years, 11 months and 25 days of age.
Besides her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Roy Struve, two half-sisters Leona Moore and Gladys McWilliams, and a brother-in-law La Vern Gerkin.
She is survived by a son Paul S. Edmunds (Cindy) of Omaha, NE; a daughter Christine M. Edmunds of Omaha, NE; a grandson Dean A. Edmunds (Cindy) of Omaha, NE; a step-granddaughter Megan Schneider and fiancé Bruce Lundry, of Ames, NE; Great-grandchildren: Zachary, Shelby, Leia, Grace and Jackson; a sister Ruth Gerkin of Omaha, NE; a sister-in-law Virginia Struve of Manning; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
