Roy Donald Jorgensen, son of Chris L. and Mabel (Clemsen) Jorgensen, was born June 1, 1937, at his folks’ home in Douglas Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm north of Kimballton where he attended country schools through the eighth grade. The schools were Mt. Zion, Spring Valley and Rose Hill. After his schooling, he helped with the family farm. He met and married Lila Johnson of Harlan, Iowa, on July 8, 1956. Three children were born to this marriage – Julie, Bob and James. During their years of marriage, Roy worked as a hired hand for several different farmers. He then went to work at Elk Horn farm equipment and First Line Auto for Paul Christensen. During these years, Roy and Lila made their home on numerous farms in the Kimballton area. Then in 1970, they settled on a farm northeast of Kimballton where they farmed until semi-retiring in 2000. Roy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. During his retirement, he enjoyed watching and listening to football, baseball and golf on television. He also enjoyed keeping track of what the neighbors were keeping busy with in the neighborhood. On Tuesday, September 25, 2018, Roy passed away at Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, Iowa. He was 81 years, 3 months and 24 days old. Roy is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lila Jorgensen of Audubon; a daughter Julie Nielsen and husband Steve of Missouri Valley; sons Robert Jorgensen and wife Barb of Audubon and James Jorgensen of Audubon; three grandchildren: Jerod (Abbie) Nielsen of Denison; Lindsey Nielsen of Heron Lake, Minnesota; and Josh Madsen (Crystal Matthews and family) of Exira; great-grandchildren: Carter, Addy and Kinnick Nielsen of Denison; a brother Harvey Jorgensen of Springfield, Missouri; and a sister Correne Schmidt and husband Gary of Des Moines; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Chris and Mabel Jorgensen; brothers Melvin and Ralph Jorgensen; an infant sister Arlene Jorgensen; three sisters-in-law: Ella, Barb, and Virginia Jorgensen; a great-granddaughter Olivia Nielsen; and a great-grandson Griffin Nielsen.
