Rose Marie Schweers

Rose Marie, daughter of Alphonse and Mary "Mayme" (Scherbring) Schweers was born on September 19, 1914 in Arcadia Iowa. She attended Arcadia Schools and graduated from high school in 1933. In 1938 she graduated with a B.A. degree in education from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City. Rose Marie then taught high school in small schools throughout western Iowa. In 1971 she retired from St. Bernard's High School in Breda after 33 years of teaching. In her retirement, Rose Marie enjoyed traveling and volunteering with RSVP, and making rosaries. She was also a member of St. John Catholic Church where she was involved with many Catholic organizations and served on many committees in the Arcadia area. On September 6, 2009 Rose Marie suffered a fall at her home in Carroll. She was then taken to Des Moines to receive treatment. Rose Marie was then transferred to Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, where she died on September 13, 2009 at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings: Gregory Schweers and wife Arlene; Georgeen and husband Joe Staiert; Paul Schweers and wife Irma and Louis Schweers and nephew Jerry Schweers. Rose Marie is survived by her sister-in-law Phyllis Schweers of Carroll; 16 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
