Rose M. Steinkamp Snyder

December 10, 1919 — March 29, 2017

 

Rose M., daughter of Max and Mary Wanninger Kastl, was born December 10, 1919 at Templeton, Iowa. She spent her younger years in Coon Rapids and graduated from Auburn High School in 1939. In 1940 Rose was united in marriage with Walter Steinkamp at St. Bernard Church in Breda. Three children were born to this union.  Rose was a hard worker and after Walter died in 1950 she held various jobs around the Breda area to support her young children. In 1961 she was united in marriage with Rudell Snyder in Breda. They lived on a farm near Breda and later moved to a farm near Schaller. Rudell died in May of 1983 and Rose moved to Carroll.  She was the baker at St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary Coffee Shop from 1984 until 2004.

   Rose was a busy lady while living on the farm. She raised chickens for many years as well as canning produce.  In her spare time she enjoyed baking for her family and knitted numerous afghans. Above all she enjoyed raising her children and time spent with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Church until moving to Carroll and joining Holy Spirit Church. She was a member of St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary.  

   In November of 2010 Rose moved to Swan House Assisted Living in Carroll. Due to her declining health, Rose moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll in June of 2012. She died there on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 19 days.

   Besides her parents, Rose is preceded in death by both her husbands, daughter Lois Steinkamp in 1968; son Clete Steinkamp in 2004; great grandson Maxwell Kies in 2007; Brother John (Jack) Kastl; Sisters Clara Warden and Ardella Heiman; step grandson Tim Haberl.

   Rose is survived by her son Kenny (Linda) Steinkamp of Breda; 5 grandchildren, Jodi (Scott) Lenz of Carroll; Jill (Jason) Kies of Wall Lake; Julie (Shane) Burcar of Gilbert, AZ; Jenni (Kris) Maines of Mesa, AZ; Brian (Maggie) Steinkamp of Breda; 10 great-grandchildren; daughter in law Audrey Steinkamp of Carroll; sisters Edith Kastl of Carroll and Marcella Kern of Carlsbad, CA; step-daughter JoAnn (Don) Renze of Omaha, NE; 7 step-grandchildren: Tony (Melanie) Renze of Omaha, NE; Angela Renze of Omaha, NE; Troy (Renee) Haberl of Cave Creek, AZ; Tadd (Michelle) Haberl of Arcadia; Tracy Haberl of S. Dakota; Tina (Brett) Eischeid of Carroll; T.J. (Peggy) Haberl of Lake City; numerous step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
