Robert "Bob" Dale, son of William and Edna (Brus) Lohrmann, was born May 30, 1934, near Manilla, Iowa in Hayes Township. He grew up near Manilla and graduated from Manilla High School in 1952 and started farming with his Uncle Ed Brus;
In November 1954, Robert was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as an Artillery Gun Crewman in Alaska until receiving his honorable discharge in October of 1956. Upon his return from the service, he was introduced to the new Kindergarten teacher, Dorothy "Dottie" Guyett.
On June 28, 1958, Bob and Dottie were united in marriage. Three children were born to this couple. Bob and Dottie farmed the Brus family Century farm on Highway 141 for 50 years. He enjoyed raising cattle, hogs and the country way of life.
Bob served as a Crawford County Supervisor for 16 years, helping legislate many roads and bridges to be repaired and rebuilt around the county, and always rallying to keep the gravel roads maintained. He was active as a Shriner and in the American Legion in Manilla and enjoyed supporting his community.
In the 1990’s, Bob helped Dottie run Grandma D's restaurant. Bob and Dorothy enjoyed hosting hunters at their home and at the restaurant. After retiring from farming, Bob and Dottie moved to Manilla. Bob cherished the time spent with family, traveling to many sporting events and fishing with grandkids.
In December of 2014, Bob became a resident of the Manilla Manor Nursing Home where he passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017, due to complications of Parkinson's disease. He was 83 years, 3 months and 28 days of age.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife parents, wife, Dorothy, of 49 years and a son, James. He is survived by: two daughters Jean and her husband John Bohnker of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Sara and her husband Dean Isaacson of Madrid, Iowa; Grandchildren: Joni and husband Jason Wheeler, Jill and husband Tim Johnson, Amy and husband Jason Wiseman, Amber and husband Michael Hegemann, Grant Isaacson and Cole Isaacson; and 8 Great-grandchildren.
