Robert William, son of William D. and Audrey Thelma (Thrapp) Hollander, was born June 20, 1944, at Charter Oak, Iowa. When he was a baby the family moved to Manilla, where his parents had grown up. Bob attended Manilla Schools. After completing his education, Bob lived various places before settling in ONeill, Nebraska. He worked on the highline construction project in that area and liked the town so he put down his roots in ONeill. Later he started driving a conventional semi truck, eventually owning his own trucking business.
On November 26, 1982, Bob was united in marriage with Carrol Newbury Hanssen at Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in ONeill and Bob embraced Carrols children as his own. In 1990 Bob and Carrol moved to Omaha, Nebraska and in the late 1990s Bob retired from trucking for health reasons.
Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed playing cards and games and visiting with family and friends.
Bob died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 64 years, 3 months and 3 days.
Preceding Bob in death are his parents; three brothers Clyde Ronald Hollander, Harold Dean Hollander and Harvey Dale Hollander; and three granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife Carrol Hollander of Omaha; four children: Cindy Siegrist of Stronghurst, Illinois; Brent Hanssen and wife Mary Pat of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania; Rhonda and husband Randy MacDonald of Mt. Forest, Ontario, Canada; and John Hanssen and wife Diana of Omaha, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers Roger Hollander and wife Pat of Omaha, Nebraska, and Bert Hollander and wife Lynne of Oconto, Wisconsin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
