Rita Pottebaum

Rita M., daughter of John H. and Coletta M. (Timmerman) Pottebaum, was born May 13, 1937, at Carroll, Iowa. She attended St. Peter & Paul grade school, St. Angela's and was part of the first class to graduate from Kuemper High School in 1955. For 39 years Rita worked for St. Anthony Hospital in the housekeeping department. She retired in 2005. Rita enjoyed playing cards, reading and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa State sports fan. She collected bird keepsakes and paperweights and enjoyed traveling. Rita was a member of the Holy Spirit Church, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, lifetime member of both the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary and the Carroll County Historical Society. Following a long battle with cancer, Rita moved to the St. Anthony Nursing Home shortly before her death there on Saturday, April 23, 2011. She was 73 years, 11 months and 10 days of age. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Vern Pottebaum (Nora) and Paul (in infancy); and brother-in-law Jerry Rotert. Rita is survived by her sister Mary Lou Rotert of Omaha, NE; five brothers: Earl Pottebaum (Caroline) of Honolulu, HI; Don Pottebaum (Elaine) of Lidderdale; Art Pottebaum (Lou) of Carroll; Ray Pottebaum (Agnes) of Anita; Bob Pottebaum (Rosie) of Halbur; nieces, nephews and friends.
