Richard Keith, son of Bill and Kathryn (Glover) Kelderman, was born August 12, 1937 in Knoxville, Iowa. He attended rural school in Marion County and then graduated from Knoxville High School in 1955. Two years later Keith and his brother Ted enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. Keith was stationed in Hawaii and New York. He was out at sea months at a time and also served as a recruiter and in security. He was honorably discharged in 1961.
