Mass of Christian burial for 91 year old Ralph Winker will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. Reverend Jose Shinoj, Celebrant.
Friends may call after 5:00 PM on Friday, Oct. 5 at Ohde Twit Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 PM followed by a Rosary by Deacon Dave Prenger. Visitation will resume at Holy Spirit Church at 9:30 AM on Saturday morning.

Ralph Peter Winker, son of Raymond B. and Catherine M. (Daiker) Winker, was born January 20, 1927, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up east of Lidderdale and north of Glidden. Ralph attended Holy Family School in Lidderdale through the eighth grade. In 1942, the family moved to a farm southeast of Auburn. Ralph helped farm with his parents and brother, and later rented 80 acres from Henry Koppelman.
In 1950, Ralph was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea with the 140th Tank Battalion. He attained the rank of Corporal and received the Korean Service Medal (with one bronze service star), Occupation Medal (Japan), and the United Nations Service Medal. He was discharged in September of 1952 and returned to farming in Iowa.
On June 2, 1953, Ralph was united in marriage with Hilda K. Schrad at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. Two sons were born to this marriage. Ralph worked various jobs in the Auburn area until 1958 when he started work with the Farm and Home Store in Carroll. In 1982, the company changes names to New Holland-Ford and in 1987, became Haley Equipment Company. During this time, Ralph also helped his sons with their small businesses.
Ralph was a member of Holy Spirit Church, a life-member of American Legion Maurice Dunn Post #7 and Veterans of Foreign Wars post 2642 in Carroll.
On Friday, September 28, 2018, Ralph passed away at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa. He was 91 years of age.
Ralph is survived by two sons: Dennis Winker of Carroll and Glenn Winker of Glidden; two sisters-in-law: Donita Schrad of Lake City and Ruth Schrad of Auburn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Kate Winker; wife Hilda Winker in 2000; brother LeRoy (Myrtle) Winker; three brothers-in-law: Lloyd Schrad, Arlo Schrad, and Donny (Katie) Schrad; sister-in-law Evelyn Schrad; nephew Ronald Winker; niece-in-law Donna Winker; nephew-in-law Don Gray; and his wife’s parents Louie and Anna Schrad.
