Phyllis Oswald

Phyllis Marie (Sapp) was born to Albert Sr. and Margaret (Neuerberg) Sapp on January 5, 1936. She was the youngest of four children. At the age of eight she moved with her family into the house where she currently lived. She attended SS. Peter and Paul Grade School and graduated from St. Angela's Academy in Carroll in 1954. Before her marriage, she worked at the Woolworth's store. She was a homemaker until 1979 when she began working for the Carroll Daily Times Herald. She worked in the collating department until 2010. She also worked at Pamida for several years. In 1955 she met John Oswald while attending a dance in Arcadia, Iowa. They were married at SS. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll on May 4, 1957. This union was blessed with five children. The couple lived in Carroll all of their married life. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Church and later Holy Spirit Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Phyllis loved filling her home with beauty, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and keeping in touch with friends and relatives via the phone. She had a unique sense of humor, a wonderful ability to listen to others, and was known for her patience. Phyllis died unexpectedly at her home in Carroll on Saturday, March 30, 2013. She is survived by four daughters: Jane and husband Ed Griesel of Sioux City; Joleen Schulz of Carroll; Judy and husband Tracy Kendzora of Des Moines; and Julie and husband Rich Anderson of North Branch, MN; son John Oswald, Jr. and wife Tammy of Omaha, NE; 16 grandchildren: Eddie Griesel; Joey (Liz) Griesel; Gabe, Luke, and Matthew Griesel; Ashlee (Joe) Daniels; Amber (Jon) Kitt; Autumn Schulz and fiancé Ben Hellman; Cassie, Mandie, and Ryan Kendzora; Alex and Austin Oswald; Garrett, Zack, and Rachel Anderson; five great-grandchildren: Jonathan Griesel, Brayden and Addison Griesel; and Emma and Joshua Daniels; brother Donald Sapp of Bullhead City, AZ; her husband's sisters Agnes Louis of Carroll and Marie (Max) Bell of Des Moines; her husband's brothers Andrew (Iris) Oswald of Omaha, NE, and Richard (Emily) Oswald of Coon Rapids; and sister-in-law Marlene Oswald of Adams, MN, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John Oswald in 2009; her parents Albert Sapp Sr. and Margaret Sapp; sister Betty Bushman; brother Albert Sapp, Jr. and wife Barb; sister-in-law Darlene Sapp; and infant grandson Johnnie Griesel.
