Phillip Roger, son of Lewis and Nola (Jerome) Frohlich, was born September 20, 1938, in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School in 1957. Butch then worked for Dahl’s Grocery in Des Moines.
From 1961 to 1964, Butch served with the U.S. Army at Fort Gordon, Georgia and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He was a Lineman and attained the rank of Private First Class. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Butch returned to Coon Rapids and worked with his family at Frohlich’s SuperValu.
On September 19, 1964, Butch was united in marriage with Sharon Ann Bennington. Butch and Sharon made their home in Coon Rapids, Iowa, and were the parents of three children. Butch continued to work with his family at the grocery store until he “retired” in 1990. He then operated Butch’s Southside Lounge and worked with Cedar Valley Construction before spending 20 years with Randy’s Trucking.
Throughout the years, Butch was a member of Annunciation Church, American Legion Post 357 and the Moose Lodge. He was very active in the Coon Rapids community where he served as mayor for eight years and on the Utility Board. Butch had a passion for anything with a motor and wheels, especially cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed passing the time sitting on his porch and watching the children in the park. One thing about Butch, he lived life to the fullest. Somebody always knew him no matter where he was at, he wasn't afraid to have a little fun. Butch enjoyed collecting Lionel Trains and other old toys throughout his life. Butch loved animals he always had a dog, rabbits, raised horses and enjoyed feeding the squirrels.
On Friday, January 12, 2018, Butch passed away at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. He was 79 years of age.
Preceding Butch in death are his parents, wife Sharon, brother Jerome Frohlich and a brother-in-law Rollie Spring.
He is survived by one daughter Jill Anthofer (Jeff) of Coon Rapids, two sons Scott Frohlich (Pattie) of Harlan and Lynn Frohlich of Coon Rapids; 12 grandchildren Alex, Andrew and Austin Anthofer; Tytan and Teya Frohlich and Jesse (Britni) Olson and Wendy Olson; and Trae, Tylie, Trenton, Ella and Rye Frohlich; two great grandchildren Kodi Olson and Connor Anthofer; two sisters Gayle Olson and friend Kenny of Wisconsin and Francis (John) Andrusyk of Colorado Springs, CO; two sisters-in-law Barbara Spring of Polk City and Janyce Frohlich of Coon Rapids; his dog Max, his number one companion; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
