Pearl M Hinze

November 21, 1918 — November 19, 2017

Funeral Services were held for Pearl M. Hinze at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. by Reverend Nancy Anderson of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning.  Burial was at the Manning Cemetery in Manning.

Pearl Margie Hinze, daughter of Herbert and Freda (Nulle) Hinze, was born November 21, 1918 in rural Arcadia, Iowa.  She attended Washington #5 school near her home through 8th grade.  With the illness and death of her mother in 1933 she lived with her grandparents, Charles and Christina Hinze, to attend Carroll High School, graduating in 1936.

In 1942 Pearl and life-long friend, Mavis Birch went to Seattle, Washington to work at Boeing.  Because of her petite size, Pearl was a riveter in the gun turrets and wings of war planes. She later transferred to military supply until the end of World War II.  Pearl then worked 40 years in the offices of Puget Power.

Pearl was a baptized, active life-long member of the Presbyterian Church.  She was an avid news and sports fan.

Pearl died at the home of her niece in Adel, Iowa on Sunday, November 19, 2017.  She was two days short of 99 years of age.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; step mother Margaret Coleman Hinze, and longtime friends Leonard Richards and Mavis Birch.

Pearl will be sadly missed by her only sibling, Orville Hinze and his wife Ida of Carroll, IA; nieces Kathy (Daniel) Keller of Adel, IA; Joni Jacobson of Minneapolis, MN; and nephew Dr. Ronald (Patti) Hinze of Cedar Grove, WI.  She is also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as two step sisters, Shirley Coleman DeWillers of Dryden, Washington; and Ellen Coleman Hoffman of Wheaton, Illinois.
