Patsy Jean, daughter of Frank Milton and Grace Anna (Mason) Mowrey, was born March 27, 1930, at home in Coon Rapids, Iowa. She attended Coon Rapids School and excelled in basketball for the 1946 6-on-6 State Championship Team.
On March 10, 1951, Patsy was united in marriage with Mervin “Tom” Moore at the Nashua Baptist Church. Two sons were born to this union. The couple first made their home in Omaha where Patsy worked as a bookkeeper. Shortly thereafter, they returned to Bayard and lived in the white house south of Orry Cretsinger. They then moved to 500 1st Street where they lived for the next 66 years. During this time, Patsy worked for Bessie Booth Café, other waitress positions, was a cook at the Bayard school, at Vaux Market, and was a foreman in the cornfields during many detasseling seasons.
Patsy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Bayard Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school and Ladies’ class. She was a great cook and enjoyed making pies, gardening, canning, playing cards, dancing, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
After Tom passed away on December 21, 2017, Patsy was diagnosed with lung cancer and broke her leg. She passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. Patsy was 88 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mervin “Tom” Moore, her parents, grandparents, sisters: Edythe (Gerald) Halterman and Fern Mowrey; and brothers: Clarence, Merle, Wilbur, Wilson and Clint.
Patsy is survived by two sons Tommy Moore and wife Cindy of Bayard and Ricky Moore and wife Lisa of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; three grandchildren: Emily, James and Jonathan Moore; sister Beulah Booth of Jefferson; a niece Patty Jo (Jacot) Halterman; nephews: Gerry (Nancy) Halterman; Ronnie (LuAnn) Mowrey; and Jack Booth; other relatives and friends.
