Patricia Ann Kalkhoff was born February 11, 1934, in Walnut, Iowa, the daughter of Melvern and Ethel (Forbes) Reimer. She attended school in Lewis, Iowa, before attending St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing from 1951 - 1954. On December 27, 1954, Pat was united in marriage to Floyd Kalkhoff in Atlantic, Iowa. Pat and Floyd raised their five children in Carroll, Iowa. Pat began her nursing career at St. Anthony Hospital in 1954. She was very proud of her 42-year career as a nurse at St. Anthony's Hospital in Carroll, working as a staff nurse, nursing supervisor, nursing manager and as Director of Quality Management and Risk Management, until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of the Quality Professionals in Health Care organization and held a state office. Pat was a member of Holy Spirit Church, the Legion of Mary, and St. Anthony Hospital Nurses' Alumni Association. The most important thing to Pat was her family. She was very active in her children's lives, including serving as a Girl Scout leader and den mother. She enjoyed playing the piano and teaching her children to play, nature, and traveling - especially to casinos with her friends. In her retirement, Pat enjoyed quilting and was a member of the American Quilting Association. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, and traveling to their school, sporting and church events. Pat passed away peacefully in her home in Carroll on October 28, 2010, at 76 years of age. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Kalkhoff, her parents, Melvern and Ethel Reimer, her brother, David Jones, and her father and mother-in-law, Edward and Mary Kalkhoff. Pat is survived by her children Mary (Paul) Hagen of Marion; Dr. Thomas (Annette) Kalkhoff of Spirit Lake; David (Lorraine) Kalkhoff of Newton; James (Kimberly) Kalkhoff of Waterloo; and Anna (Larry Johansen) Kalkhoff of Cedar Falls; and her grandchildren: Michelle (David) Miles, Michael (Heather) Kalkhoff, Meredith and Grant Hagen, Daniel, Stephen, Sarah, and Rachel Kalkhoff, and Nicholas and Emily Hambly.
