Orvil Wayne, son of Earl and Flossie (Harvey) Bylund, was born March 20, 1923, in Coon Rapids, Iowa. He attended Viola Township School. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Navy on September 22, 1941. Orvil served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters on LST and merchant-class ships. He attained the rank of Petty Officer First Class and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1946.
Orvil was united in marriage with Ione Ida Goodwin on November 9, 1942, at Maryville, MO. Seven children were born to this union. Orvils occupation was a carpenter and he worked on several large buildings in the Des Moines area. He also worked as a farmer and painter during his career. He retired in 1985 and then he and Ione returned to Coon Rapids in 1996. Ione died in February of 2003.
Orvil was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Charity Masonic Lodge #197, Disabled American Veterans and Carpenters Union Local #106 of Des Moines. He thoroughly enjoyed woodworking and above all took pleasure in his children and grandchildren.
