Ola Emma, daughter of Marcus and Rachel (Hanson) Axland, was born January 28, 1912, on her familys farm near Irwin, Iowa. She grew up on the farm and attended rural school near her home through the eighth grade. She then graduated from Harlan High School in 1930. Following graduation, Ola was a country school teacher in Shelby County for five years.

On March 19, 1938, Ola was united in marriage with Raymond Sleister in Irwin. Four children were born to this union. They lived and worked on the family farm near Manilla until 1964 when Raymond took a position with a road construction company. He retired in 1971 and they moved to their home in Manilla.  Ola was a longtime member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Irwin and was a member of the afternoon sewing circle. Her faith grounded her throughout her life.

Ola and Raymond loved gardening and flowers and attending antique farm machinery shows following retirement.  They traveled to 20 states in the USA.  Ola enjoyed the daily paper and crossword puzzle, reading, caring for her plants and embroidering quilt tops to give as gifts to her children and grandchildren.  Her greatest enjoyment was visiting with her family and always thinking about their welfare.

Ola moved to the Manilla Manor in May of 1996 and enjoyed visiting with the other residents. Because she always remained young at heart, the staff (especially the young ones) enjoyed her in return. Though she had some health problems, her death at the Manilla Manor on February 27, 2007 at the age of 95 years and 30 days was unexpected.    Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; a stillborn son Lynn; great-grandson Dylan; two brothers Henry and Elmer Axland; four sisters: Mae (Maurice) Campbell, Emelia (Tom) Nelson, Elva (Julius) Guth and Gladys (Francis) Rogers; and  in-laws Harold Ickes, Chris (Violet) Rasmussen and Eddie Schwieso.

Ola  is survived by three children: Ruth McClelland of Manilla, Gene Sleister of Denison, and Bonnie and husband Tom Crispin of Urbandale; 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister Nellie Ickes of Harlan; sister-in-law Edythe Schwieso of Manilla;  nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
