Norman Nielsen

April 13, 1921 — December 15, 2009

Norman Albert, son of Christian and Dagmar (Christensen) Nielsen was born on April 13, 1921 near Jacksonville, Iowa. He attended country school and in 1941, Norman enlisted in the United States Navy. During World War II, he served with the Navy Seabees in the Pacific region. Upon his honorable discharge, Norman made his home in Wichita, Kansas where he worked for the Boeing Company. In 1959 he moved to California and began working for Rohr Manufacturing. On July 24, 1960, Norman was united in marriage with Barbara Neal at Chula Vista, California. The couple made their home in Chula Vista and Norman continued to work for Rohr Manufacturing until his retirement in 1989. Norman was a skilled craftsman and in his retirement, he remained active working on his house and helping friends and neighbors. Norman and Barbara also enjoyed traveling. In October of 2005, Norman became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. He remained there until May 2006, when he moved to a home in Kimballton with his wife, Barbara. In June 2008, he returned to Salem Lutheran Home where he died on December 15, 2009 at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 2 days. Norman was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Delbert Criss. He is survived by his wife Barbara Nielsen of Kimballton; a brother Harley Nielsen and wife Bonnie of Council Bluffs; sister Myrna Criss of Wichita, KS; brother-in-law Dennis Neal and wife Carole of Wichita, KS; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
