Norbert H., son of Joseph W. and Mary (Hackfort) Hoffman was born on July 24, 1934 in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm south of Carroll and attended Holy Angels School in Roselle. Norbert later served in the United States Army Reserves. On May 10, 1958 Norbert was united in marriage with Mildred Steffes at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton by his brother Msg. Lawrence Hoffman. The couple made their home on Norbert's family farm south of Carroll and they were the parents of eight children. Norbert farmed his entire life and worked for Garst Seeds in Coon Rapids for 20 years. The family farm received century farm status in 2009. After his retirement, Norbert enjoyed woodworking, yard work, spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Willey and the Dedham American Legion. In April 2010 Norbert and Mildred moved to Carroll. On May 13, 2010 Norbert died suddenly and unexpectedly in Boone County, Iowa. He was 75 years, 9 months and 19 days of age. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Mildred Hoffman of Carroll; children: Joan and husband Rich Vogl of Carroll; Dave and wife Connie Hoffman of Willey; Leo Hoffman of Carroll; Leroy Hoffman and wife Jenny of Titonka; Ruth and husband Mark Broxton of Austin, TX; Bob Hoffman and wife Deb of Willey; Glenn Hoffman and wife Rhonda of Halbur and Marty Hoffman and wife Katie of Ankeny; grandchildren: Melissa and husband Nick May, Nick Kirsch and wife Sarah, Mike and Kendra Kirsch and Matt, Chad, Jenna, Jacie, Kayla, Bryce, Shane, Carly, Nathan and Haley Hoffman; great-grandchildren: Drake May, Avery Kirsch and Tarynn Hoffman; brothers: Joseph Hoffman and wife Dorothy of Ruthven and Lambert Hoffman and wife Marge of Graettinger; sisters-in-law Rosie Hoffman of Graettinger and Arlene Eischeid of Carroll; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Frank and Catherine Steffes; step mother-in-law: Cordella Steffes; brothers: Louis, Albert, Leonard, Msg.
