Nicholas Halterman

August 15, 1975 — August 19, 2011

Nicholas "Spanky" Halterman, son of Darwin Dee and Mary Jo (Park) Halterman, was born on August 15, 1975 at Guthrie Center, Iowa. He grew up in Bayard and attended Coon Rapids-Bayard Schools where he was active in the Boy Scouts and many sports. He graduated in 1994 and then began working for the Farmer's Coop and later for Garst Seed and Garst Company. Nick was united in marriage with Amy Mauch and three daughters were born to this union. Nick then worked for Tyson Foods in Perry where he served as a maintenance supervisor for 11 years. On September 3, 2005 Nick was united in marriage with Tonya Anderson at Springbrook State Park. The family made their home in Bayard. Nick was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish, hunt and ride his four-wheeler. He also enjoyed cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. Above all, Nick loved spending time with his family. In March 2009, Nick was diagnosed with cancer. In June 2011, he entered the Thomas Rest Haven Nursing Home in Coon Rapids where he passed away on August 19, 2011. He was 36 years and 4 days of age. Nick was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents Helen Halterman and Bob Park. He is survived by his wife Tonya Halterman of Bayard; children: Trask Anderson, Chase Dickman, Dylan Dickman, and Nikki, Hanna, Rylee and Kaden Halterman; father Darwin Halterman and fiancée Geri Shirbroun of Bayard; brother Jonathan Halterman of Bayard; grandparents: Wayne Halterman of Bayard and Carol Park of Scranton; step brother and sisters: Nicole Shirbroun of Coon Rapids; Holly Namanny of Coon Rapids and Nathan Shirbroun of Coon Rapids; many other relatives and friends.
