D. Neil, son of Ivan Vaughndean Ragan and Madeline Loree (Fish) Ragan, was born on August 21, 1949 at Bethany, MO. He received his education at North Harrison Schools in Eagleville graduating from high school with the class of 1967. Neil then began working at Campbells Garage. In the spring of 1969 Neil enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country on the USS Tulare during the Vietnam War.
On June 27, 1969 Neil was united in marriage to Terri Lynn Hamilton in Bethany. To this union, four children were born: Lesa Maree, Jeffrey James, Lori Denise and Jesse Vaughn. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1971, the family made their home in Eagleville where he resumed employment at Campbells Garage as a mechanic. In January of 1974 the family moved to Coon Rapids, IA where Neil took a position in the maintenance department at Garst and Thomas. He was employed by the seed corn company for 31 years. Last year he started to work part-time for the City of Coon Rapids street department. In his leisure time, Neil enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, spending time with family and friends, and spending time with his faithful dog, Sam.
Neil died in an accident at work near Coon Rapids on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at the age of 57 years and 6 months.
Preceding Neil in death are his father Vaughndean in 1955; brother Lonnie in 1941; infant son Jeffrey in 1971; and grandparents: Daniel and Anna (Pennington) Ragan and Dee and Nina (Dorell) Fish.
Neil is survived by his mother Madeline Ragan of Bethany, MO; two daughters: Lesa and husband Shane Kendrick of Coon Rapids; and Lori Ragan of Maryville, MO; son: Jesse Ragan and his fiance Brandi Bates of Coon Rapids; three brothers: Larry Ragan and wife Joy of Eagleville, MO; Richard Ragan and wife Paula of Bethany, MO; Jim Ragan and wife Becky of Cameron, MO; seven grandchildren: Jacob and Derek Ragan; Jamison and Alyssa Lowe; and Alieah, Draven, and Michael Kendrick; four nephews, two nieces, and other relatives, many friends, and his beloved dog, Sam.
