Nadine M Young

Nadine Mae, daughter of Howard O. and Grace Fay (Harden) Teter, was born December 23, 1926 in Coon Rapids, Iowa. She grew up in Coon Rapids and graduated from Coon Rapids High School. When she was ten years old, her father died in a car accident. Her mother married Wilber Fohey who raised her. After graduating from high school, she worked at Perry King's Daughters Hospital for a short time. She continued her education at Broadlawn's Nursing Program in Des Moines. In 1947, while working at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, she met Billy Young who was going to electrical school. On December 3, 1948, Nadine was united in marriage with Billy Young at the Methodist Church in Des Moines. They lived in Memphis, MO for three years before moving to Coon Rapids, IA. Nadine was primarily a homemaker, raising their five children. She was a wonderful, caring mother who always showed unconditional love to her children. Nadine was a loving and devoted farm wife until her husband died in 2006. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for family and friends, gardening and raising flowers. Nadine could be found whistling while doing any job or bird watching, one of her favorite pastimes. She was a dog lover throughout her life. Nadine enjoyed family trips to Lake Okoboji. She was involved in her children's activities and was a Girl and Boy Scout leader. In her retirement years, Nadine traveled yearly to Arkansas to visit her daughter. She was called a very sweet person by all who came in contact with her. Even in the hospital at the end of her life, the nurses said she was such a sweet patient. Nadine was able to remain in her home with the loving care of her family, until her health started to fail and she was diagnosed with cancer. After a short stay at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, she died on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 28 days. Nadine is preceded in death by her husband; parents; grandparents Luther and Ruth Harden and Frank and Margret Teter and stepfather Wilber Fohey. Nadine is survived by her children: Ruby (Richard) Smits of Heber Spring, AR; Gary (Marcia) Young of Coon Rapids; Rita (Gary) Erickson of West Des Moines; Leslie (Linda) Young of Madrid and Larry Young of Coon Rapids; five grandchildren; one step-grandchild; four great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
