Myron Bogatzke

December 22, 1933 — July 1, 2010

Myron Delton, son of Karl and Amanda (Dammann) Bogatzke, was born on December 22, 1933 in Carroll County, Iowa. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, south of Manning. Myron attended various country schools in the Manning area and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on April 10, 1949. After Myron graduated from Manning High School in 1952 he worked with his father on the farm until 1956 when he moved to Milwaukee WI and worked in the Allis Chalmer factory. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on December 4, 1956. During his service, he spent one year in Iceland. Myron was honorably discharged on December 3, 1958 and returned to Manning to farm with his father and brother. Myron was united in marriage to Wilma Jackson on December 11, 1965 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township. From this union the couple was blessed with three children: Karla, Martin and Craig. They farmed until 1981 when the family moved to Manning. He was employed by Manning Natural Gas until his retirement in 1998. During retirement he began woodworking and enjoyed making various items for his children and grandchildren. He also took great pleasure in helping high school classmate and lifelong friend Russell Spies with his farming operation. He also enjoyed recycling metals. Myron was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Myron's health began failing in late 2009 and he was diagnosed with cancer in January 2010. He was called to his heavenly home on July 1, 2010 at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 9 days. Myron was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mae and her husband Ken Fogleman; sister Marilyn Holmes; a brother and sister in infancy and sister-in-law Donna Fae Bogatzke. Myron is survived by his loving wife Wilma Bogatzke of Manning; daughter Karla and husband Allan (JR) Gierstorf of West Des Moines; two sons Martin Bogatzke and wife Michele of New Ulm, MN and Craig Bogatzke of Schleswig; six grandchildren: Nicolette, Casey, Sheena, Ashley, Amber and Abby; brother Marvin Bogatzke of Audubon; sister Marlene Radtke of Oregon, WI and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
