Jean Alice, daughter of August and Alice (Patton) Warnke, was born July 17, 1934, in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Carroll and graduated from Carroll High School in 1951. Jean then attended Iowa State for one year.
On January 11, 1953, Jean was united in marriage with Gene Wiese in Carroll, with a honeymoon at the Denver Stock Show. Four children were born to this union. With the exception of a short time in Indianola, they made their home on the farm east of Manning. Jean and Gene were partners in Wiese and Sons Hereford Breeders. Jean’s passion usually centered around this business. The couple enjoyed traveling together to numerous stock shows around the U.S. and in Europe and Australia. Jean and Gene opened their home and farm to, and enjoyed the company of, many foreign and domestic students and workers.
Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was active with the Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of PEO and the Woman’s Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and cared about people. Jean will be remembered as a loving grandmother, supporting the activities and successes of her grandchildren.
In January of 2017, Jean became a resident of Regency Park in Carroll, before moving to the Manning Plaza in December of 2017. On Tuesday, January 16, 2018, Jean died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center in Manning, Iowa. She was 83 years of age.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Douglas Wiese; and a brother-in-law Sam Wiese.
Jean is survived by her husband Gene Wiese of Manning; three children: Helen Wiese of Manning; David Wiese and wife Diana of Manning; Kathryn Wiese of Waimea, Hawaii; four grandchildren: Chancelor, Shayne and Trey Wiese, all of Manning; and Kieran Wiese Gibson of Hawaii; a sister-in-law Millicent Wiese of Manning; nieces: Barb, Mary and Nancy Wiese; and by other relatives and friends.
