Modesta 'Chub' Olberding

Modesta Arnett "Chub", daughter of Fredrick and Ann (Vorsten) Mosman was born on February 25, 1922 at Carroll, Iowa. She attended Sts. Peter and Paul School in Carroll and later remained at home, helping care for her mother. On October 30, 1943 Chub was united in marriage with LuVern Olberding at Norfolk, Virginia. After LuVern's discharge in 1945 they moved to Carroll and were the parents of ten children. Chub worked as a homemaker and in her spare time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake for her family. She gave each of her children her love, faith and respect for life and God. After the death of her husband in 1994, Chub remained at her home in Carroll until she became a resident of St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll in 2008. She died there on October 23, 2009 at the age of 87. Chub was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Gary Olberding in 1967 and Randy Olberding in 1996; sisters Sally Allen and Marilyn Leiting and brothers Jack Mosman and Raymond Mosman. She is survived by her children: Dennis Olberding and wife Dee of El Dorado Hills, CA; Duane "Butch" Olberding and wife Judy of Iowa Falls; John Olberding and wife JoAnn of Carroll; Kris Minnihan of Auburn; Karen and husband Leon Merrell of Papillion, NE; Kathy Olson Thede of Churdan; Karla and husband Raymond Mercieca of Spring, TX and Keith Olberding and wife Kathy of Omaha, NE; 27 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; brothers: Bud Mosman of Carroll and Robert Mosman of Buena Park, CA; sisters: Joyce Feramisco of California and Phyllis Schrad of Carroll; sisters-in-law: Sylvia Mosman of Buena Park, CA and Mary Jane Mosman of Redding, CA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
