Mildred Irene, daughter of Rasmus and Mary (Mardesen) Nissen was born August 27, 1914 at Elk Horn, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Mildred attended Elk Horn Schools, graduating in 1932.
On March 10, 1942 Mildred was united in marriage with Emmert Olson at Maryville, Missouri. The couple made their home on a farm southeast of Elk Horn where Mildred worked as a homemaker and helped out on the farm.
After the death of her husband on December 7, 1975, Mildred remained on the farm and began working as a nurses aid. In 1984 she moved to Elk Horn. Mildred was a life-long member of Elk Horn Lutheran Church and in her spare time she enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
In 2003 Mildred became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn. She died there on October 24, 2008 at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 27 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Rena Paulsen, Florence Petersen, Frankie Namanny and Annabelle Nelson; and brothers: Clarence, Harvey, Melvin and Mick Nissen.
Mildred is survived by her son Lanny Olson and wife Margaret of rural Exira; grandson Kyle Olson of rural Exira; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
