    Mildred Angela Caroline, daughter of Joseph and Adelaide (Fritz) Mescher, was born August 21, 1912, at Arcadia, Iowa. Mil attended St Johns Parochial School in Arcadia through the 10th grade and then graduated from Arcadia High School in 1930. Following her schooling, she worked in the homes of other families in the area.           On February 17, 1931, Mil was united in marriage with Joe Horbach of Templeton at St. Johns Church in Arcadia. They made their home in Manning and two sons, Donald and Robert, were born to this union. Mil was a homemaker and then worked in the Gambles Hardware Store after her youngest son started school. She also worked at Priebe and Sons Hatchery. Her husband Joe died on August 31, 1973. Mil continued to live in their home in south Manning.     Mil was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning where she served as Parish Council secretary and was a member of Sacred Heart Altar Society and Choir, as well as, a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.  In addition, she was a member of the Little Flower Study Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.  Mildred was a faithful member of these organizations and held offices in all of them.  In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, knitting and crocheting and was a member of the Piece Makers Quilting Club. She enjoyed the outdoors and spent many hours fishing. She also enjoyed bowling and reading. Mil volunteered at the Carroll County Museum, New Hope Village Secondhand Store, Manning Hospital Snack Bar, and in the office at CCD. Above all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.    When she could no longer remain in her home due to health problems, Mil became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in June 2007.  She died there on Thursday, February 14, 2008, at the age of 95 years, 5 months and 24 days.    Preceding Mil in death are her parents; husband Joe Horbach; two sons Donald Horbach and Dr. Robert Horbach; two daughters-in-law Janet Horbach and Arlene Horbach; grandson Keith Horbach; grandson-in-law Javier Olano; brother Cy Mescher and wife Laura; two sisters Bernice and husband Bill Koon and Louise and husband Bud Jentsch.    She is survived by nine grandchildren: Dr. Todd Horbach and wife Gina and their five sons of Springfield, MO; Dr. Nancy Olano and her three sons of Rembrandt, SC; Dr. Greg Horbach and wife Giselle and their son and daughter of Jacksonville, FL; Brian Horbach and wife Susan and their three sons and two daughters of Omaha, NE; Joe Horbach and wife Tracy and their son and two daughters of Omaha, NE; Theresa Horbach of Omaha, NE; Jeff Horbach and wife Christa and their three daughters of Las Vegas, NV; Angela and her husband Dan Robertson of Las Vegas,  NV; and Lori Horbach of Las Vegas, NV; daughter-in-law Jean Horbach of Omaha; brother-in-law Bill Horbach of Templeton; two sisters-in-law Rita Rupiper of Carroll and Sister Joyce Horbach of Dubuque; many relatives & friends.
