Michael Francis Hoffman passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was 73 years, 7 months and 20 days of age.
Mike was born on May 13, 1947 in Manning, Iowa to Julius and Pearl Ellen (Coleman) Hoffman. He grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1965. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served as a radioman on the submarines, USS Salmon and USS Bluegill. He was honorably discharged in 1969, returned to Manning and worked at the APCO gas station.
Mike farmed near Irwin for a short time and then purchased a farm near Exira where he lived until his death. Mike loved cattle and everything that goes with them. His angus cattle were his pride and joy.
Mike started driving for Asberry trucking in 1977 and continued driving for them until his death. Mike had no relatives in Exira, but the Asberry family became that for Mike. Many thanks to them and his friend Tom Hill, who was like a son, for helping Mike and for the stories they shared with us.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by aunts Marian Long of Carroll, Shirley Coleman Dewiller of Dryden, Washington, and step aunt Iva Hinz and by many cousins, and friends.
