Merle D., son of Louie and Ada (Bushman) Heuton, was born November 17, 1926 in Glidden, Iowa. He lived with his family on a farm near Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School in 1944. Following graduation, Merle enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Merle returned to the Glidden area. On December 22, 1946 he was united in marriage with Grace A. Moorman at St. John's Lutheran Church. Two children were born to this union. Merle and Grace farmed near Glidden for 15 years and then moved to Des Moines where he worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber for 22 years. After retiring, they moved to Palm Harbor, FL, for 29 years. Merle moved back to Carroll in 2011 to be nearer family and friends. Merle was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Carroll. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards and mostly enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Merle died unexpectedly on Monday, June 17, 2013, at St. Anthony Hospital, Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 86. Merle will be greatly missed by his son Sidney (Linda) Heuton of Palm Harbor, FL; daughter Sonya (Steve) Hollenbeck of Rocky Mount, MO; 5 grandchildren: Adam (Amanda) Markham of Nashville, TN, Anne (Clint) Walker of High Ridge, MO, Kyle Markham of Roanoke, VA, Shannon (Danny) DeFranze of New Port Richey, FL and Shawn Heuton of Tampa, FL; 4 step-grandchildren: Missy (Billy) Karapiperis of Orlando, FL, Chip Hodges of Gainesville, FL, Matt (Beth) Hollenbeck of San Diego, CA and Travis (Melissa) Hollenbeck of Lenexa, KS; 11 great grandchildren: Alexis, Isaiah, Mia, Blake, Dane, Tanner, Bailey, Landon, Blair, Makenna and Will; brother Delbert Heuton of Carroll; sisters-in-law Gladys Heuton of Rembrandt, IA, Mary Jo (Glenn) Frease of Winterset, IA and brother-in-law Harold Romayne (Marlene) Moorman of Owatonna, MN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Merle was preceded in death by his parents; wife Grace Heuton; brothers Virgil and Arnold Heuton; brother-in-law Voshel Moorman; sisters-in-law Jerry Moorman, Leta Heuton, Mildred Heuton and Eva Heuton.
