Melvin Peter, son of Leo and Bertille (Reinert) Thielen was born November 26, 1934 in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on a farm south of Manning with two brothers, Raymond and Danny, and a sister, Margie. Melvin attended Lincoln No. 2 Country School. After his schooling, he continued working with his father and brothers on the farm, where he enjoyed raising livestock. On March 21, 1957 Melvin enlisted in the Army National Guard for 6 years. After his honorable discharge he continued farming with his family. He enjoyed traveling and had fond memories of trips to South America and Germany. He was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning.
Melvin was a beloved uncle, a mentor in his family, who loved spending time with his nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
On Friday, November 17, 2017 Melvin died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning, where he had been a resident since 2010. He was 82 years, 11 months and 22 days of age.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bertille Thielen, brother Raymond Thielen and brother-in-law Wendell (Jr.) Feilmeier.
He is survived by his sister, Margie Feilmeier of Carroll, brother, Danny Thielen of Manning, sister-in-law, Vicki Thielen of Manning, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
