Melvin Dean, son of Henry and Clara (Bartels) Kruskop, was born December 11, 1931, at Lytton, Iowa.  He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton.  Melvin graduated from Lytton High School in 1949 and farmed before his marriage.     On September 20, 1953, Melvin was united in marriage with Wanda Russell at Sac City, Iowa.  Three daughters were born to this union.  The family lived and farmed northwest of Lytton until 1971, when they moved to a home they built near Lytton.  Melvin was involved in farm machinery sales and cattle-buying until 1983 when he started an antique furniture restoration business.  He retired in 1998 and he and Wanda moved to Carroll.  Melvin was always active and looking for new challenges.  He loved spending time with his family, dogs, enjoyed nature and meeting new people.   Melvin was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Carroll and a volunteer with Community of Concern.     Following a long illness, Melvin died suddenly at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, on Sunday, September 20, 2009.  He was 77 years, 9 months and 9 days of age.     Preceding him in death are his parents.     Melvin is survived by his wife Wanda Kruskop of  Carroll; daughters: Julie Hiatt of Des Moines; Nancy and husband Tim Schmitz of Arcadia; and Lisa McCoy of Des Moines; grandchildren: Cody Schmitz and wife Rachel; Jake Schmitz; and Tasha Hiatt; sisters Elta Dettmann of Lytton and Lorene Hinrichs of Sac City; other relatives and friends.
