Maxine Weeks Gardner

She lived on the farm with her parents and siblings. Maxine attended rural schools and then graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1928. She had been baptized at the Christian Church in Guthrie Center in 1926. After graduation Maxine taught rural school for three years. On August 3, 1930 she was united in marriage with Howard F. Randolph. One son Richard was born to this union and they lived in Guthrie Center. On May 14, 1947, Maxine was united in marriage with A. F. "Toots" Weeks and they made their home in Coon Rapids. Maxine worked at the Garst Store and in the office of HyLine Chicks. Maxine was a loving mother and friend to all. Maxine's talent to create anything and everything from scratch was priceless. She enjoyed her garden including vegetables and flowers. Watching nature gave Maxine great joy. Maxine was an avid reader, especially history. Her husband Toots died in 1972. Later in the 1970s, Maxine was blessed with a trip to the Holy Land. On June 16, 1979, Maxine was united in marriage with John F. Gardner. They made their home in Fort Dodge where they enjoyed their retirement years. John died in 1991. The next year she moved to Des Moines to be near her son and his family. Maxine enjoyed a strong, active, healthy life until about a month before her death on Friday, February 4, 2011 at her home in Des Moines. She was 99 years, 11 months and 1 day of age. Preceding her in death are her parents; three husbands; two brothers Frank and Earl Goochey and four sisters: Wilma Burns, Lucille Headlee, Eva Struthers and Jean McCurdy Coffman. Maxine is survived by her son Richard Randolph and Rosemary of Des Moines; grandson Ryan Randolph and fiancée Kathryn Blackburn of Rapid City, SD; granddaughter Robin Randolph of Des Moines; brother Robert Goochey and wife Mary of Park Rapids, MN; sister Mary and husband Nick Andersen of Coon Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
