Maurice Henry Potthoff, son of Theodore J. and Margaret (Spangler) Potthoff was born January 29, 1924, in Carroll, Iowa. He attended school at St. Augustine in Halbur and graduated from Carroll High School in 1942.
On July 14, 1947, Maurice and Colette Siepker were united in marriage at St. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll. From this union of 68 years, ten children were born. He and Colette owned and operated a family farm north of Halbur for most of their lives. In 2002, Maurice and Colette moved to a condo in Carroll near the golf course.
Maurice was a member of the Holy Name Society and St. Augustine Parish of Halbur, and later Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. He had also served as a Director of Halbur Farmer’s Coop and was a member of the senior golf league and Carroll Elks Club. He enjoyed playing cards and golfing with family and friends. Maurice also loved watching his grandchildren’s sports and activities, ballroom dancing and helping the Carroll Rug Ladies cut fabric.
In 2013, Maurice and Colette became residents of Sunnybrook of Carroll. In September 2015 he moved to Hawkeye Care Center with his wife. He passed quietly on December 27, 2015, at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 28 days having been visited by his family the previous week.
Preceding him in death are his parents Theodore and Margaret; son Ronald; brothers Alvin (Marie), Theodore (Marilyn), Orlando (Helen), Roman (Catherine), and Jerome (Jeanne).
Maurice is survived by his wife Colette (Siepker) Potthoff of Carroll; children Keith (Winnifred) Potthoff of Carroll; Randall Potthoff of Carroll; Steven (Linda) Potthoff of Omaha, NE; Janine (Jon) Kirk of Ft. Calhoun, NE; Scott (Cathy) Potthoff of Carroll; Tom (Paula) Potthoff of Bettendorf; Sue Haylor of Makawao, HI; Larry (Ann) Potthoff of Gilbert, AZ; Jeffrey (Michelle) Potthoff of Urbandale, IA; daughter-in-law Nita Merrigan-Potthoff of Bennington, NE; 27 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Annabelle Carter, Margaret (Bill) Schleisman and Cecile Nelis; sisters-in-law Marlene Siepker, Connie Siepker and Mary Ann Schlorholtz.
