Mary Ann, daughter of Henry and Anna (Meiners) Korwes, was born November 28, 1909 on a farm near Roselle in Carroll County, IA. She attended school in the Roselle School District. Mary then worked for area families to help care for their children and homes. On October 27, 1931 Mary eloped to Hooper, NE and was united in marriage with Carl Jennewein. One daughter was born to this union. The couple made their home in Carroll. Mary worked from home as a seamstress. She was extremely talented and had impeccable taste. She made many items including her own dresses with hats to match. Mary was a dedicated woman to her many talents. She gained many lifelong clients with her beautiful work. Mary was able to sew well into her 80's, and also enjoyed crocheting, tatting, cut work and many different needle crafts. Carl died on September 23, 1995, and a few years later Mary moved to an assisted living home in Johnston, IA to be closer to her daughter. Mary then moved to Bishop Drumm Nursing Home and received excellent care from the entire staff. She died there on October 22, 2013 at the age of 103 years, 10 months and 24 days. Mary had a long life and was able to enrich the lives of those she touched. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Anna Korwes; husband Carl Jennewein; brothers Henry Korwes, Ben Korwes, Al Korwes and Harold Korwes; sisters Kathryn Hinners, Loretta Fillman and Lillian Westfall. She is survived by her daughter Kathy (Craig) Hiatt of Clive, IA; siblings Joe Korwes of West Des Moines, IA, Gilbert (Mary Lou) Korwes of Spirit Lake, IA, Rose Nygard of South Sioux City, NE and Tillie Mathison of Harlan, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
