Marvin Henry Lorenzen, son of Anna Wilhelmina Lackman and Andreas Lorenzen was born July 11, 1932 at Boyer, IA. He lived there until the age of 7 when the family moved to Manilla in the Walkertown area after the death of his father. He had 3 sisters and 6 brothers. He graduated from Manilla High School. During his school days and after that, he worked for several area farmers until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1953. He was stationed in San Diego, CA, Texas and Washington, and also served aboard the USS Hornet Aircraft Carrier. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and returned to Manilla where he went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad Signal Department for 7 years. He then worked for the Crawford County Maintenance Department for 31 years and retired on June 30, 1994.
On July 17, 1954 he was united in marriage with LaRoice Ritchey. Five children were born to this happy union, two of which died in infancy (Randy and Cindy). He was a very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Marvin was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church but later joined the United Methodist Church.
Marvin was a lover of horses and rode in many parades. One year he performed at the July 4th celebration with his horse that he trained. His horses were a great enjoyment to him. He also liked hunting, fishing and doing leather crafts, which he continued doing late into his life.
In April of 2020, Marvin became a resident of Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids where he passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020. He was 88 years and 2 days of age.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, 2 children (Randy and Cindy), 3 sisters, 6 brothers and his wife LaRoice. He is survived by 3 children: Jeff and wife Teresa of Denison, Sandy Kremin and husband Mark of Dow City and James and wife Julie of Jefferson;7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
