Marlene June Ramsey, daughter of John Jack? Horbach Jr. and Loretta Hoffman Horbach, was born April 9, 1933, at Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Manning and graduated from Manning High School in 1951. She then for a short time attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls and returned to Manning to work at the Gambles Store and to care for her mother. On September 5, 1955, Marlene was united in marriage with Leonard Ramsey at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. Six children were born to this union. Marlene and Leonard made their home in Manning until 1956 when they moved to Coon Rapids. In 1961 they purchased the Coon Rapids Locker. After the children had grown, Marlene operated Antiques Etc next to the locker. In 1988, the locker and antique store burned and Marlene retired. In their retirement, Marlene and Leonard enjoyed gambling and traveling to Florida for several winters. In 2005, Marlene and Leonard celebrated 50 years of marriage. Marlenes hobbies were gardening, antiques, collecting Beanie Babies, playing cards, reading cookbooks, painting and sharing her collections. She was a member of Annunciation Church and the Garden Club. Marlene always loved spending time with her family and enjoyed sharing her thoughts and words of encouragement with them. Marlene finally hit the jackpot on 6/6/06 at 6 PM, when she entered the Kingdom of Heaven. She died at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, of complications from a chronic illness. She was 73 years, 1 month and 27 days of age. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jon E. Ramsey and her father-in-law Ed Ramsey. She is survived by her husband Leonard Ramsey of Coon Rapids; children: Mary Jo and husband Tim Pedersen of Coon Rapids; Doug Ramsey and wife Bev of Coon Rapids; Sandy and husband John Eivins of Guthrie Center; Gwen Ramsey of Manning; and Dana and husband Kevin Meier of Adel; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Gwanetha Gwen and husband Donald Cranford of Mobile, AL; her mother-in-law Dolores Ramsey of Manning; a brother-in-law Dennis Ramsey and wife Joan of Manning; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
