Marie P. Schumacher

Marie Patricia, daughter of Michael and Margaret (McDermott) Clinton, was born March 6, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa. On July 25, 1922, at four months of age, Marie was adopted by Charles and Minnie Wilberding of Carroll. They made their home in Carroll where Marie attended St. Peter and Paul's School and St. Angela Academy. After graduation she spent a year at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Honor Society. On August 8, 1939 Marie was united in marriage with Paul Norbert Schumacher at St. Peter and Paul's Church in Carroll with Rev. Leo C. Schumacher officiating. They made their home in the ancestral family home near Willey and were members of St. Mary's Parish. To this union fourteen children were born. In 1957 Marie was instrumental in establishing St. Mary's Guild of which she was the founding president. She was a charter member of the adult choir of St. Mary's Church; long time member of Little Flower Study Club and AA. Marie's husband died May 15, 2004 and she continued to live in their home near Willey. When her health began to decline, she was cared for at home by her family where she died on January 3, 2013 at the age of 90 years. Preceding Marie in death are her parents; daughter Marie Celine, in infancy; daughter Mary Norrod; brother Reverend Joseph Wilberding and sister Agnes Flies. She is survived by her twelve children: Lorraine (Lorin) Baumhover of Boone, NC; Jeanne de Boer of Duluth, GA; Francine (Harvey) Kortman of Port Angeles, WA; Joseph Schumacher (Jill) of Florence, WI; Joan Marie (Mike) Bloom of Brooklyn, WI; Martin (JoAnn) Schumacher of Willey; Jerry (Barbara) Schumacher of Boone, NC; Carolyn Schumacher (Jim Winner) of Blue Springs. MO; Patricia (John) Glisson of Flowery Branch, GA; Kathleen (John) Phillips of Gainesville, GA; Marita Beth Schumacher of Franklin, TN; and Theresa Wilson of Nashville, TN; 28 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
